Mapping
Sustainable South Bronx and HabitatMap will be using this forum topic to coordinate our NYC Peaker Power Plants Mapping Initiative. Input and contributions from other participants are invited.
"Peaker" is a designation given to power plants that are only intended to operate on high electrical demand days when the generating capacity of base load plants is strained, like on hot summer days. Peaker plants often emit more pollution per unit of energy produced than base load plants because they are not held to the same emissions standards regulating base load plants. For more information on peakers see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peaking_power_plant
